Overview:
The Transportation Design Project is a semester-long project in the Fundamentals of Engineering course at Ohio State. Students utilize an AEV kit and their newly taught CAD skills to create a solution to an issue students at Ohio State face in their daily lives.
In a group of 4 we prototyped underground train using SolidWorks and Arduino programming and created official documentation to support project findings of a sustainable, effective, and cost-effective solution.

Problems Faced
This project reached its peak right at the start of the coronavirus pandemic. Having to transition from in-person to online project meetings was difficult.
Through covid, I organized times for us to meet up and work on our project that accommodated all our time zones and class schedules. A huge portion of this course was making a prototype in SolidWorks to be printed and used for in-person testing, which was clearly compromised by the current events. Since we were cut off halfway through teaching solidworks in the semester, our team struggled initially.
Outtakes:
I personally enjoy teaching myself different types of softwares in my free time, and SolidWorks is no exception. I allocated time outside of my classes to prepare myself for creating this prototype by learning additional SolidWorks functions, as well as teaching some of my teammates on these functions as well. I designed almost our entire prototype in our shortened project timeframe and was extremely satisfied with the result.
